So finally we are getting there with our new cottage! The worst, aka the complete house re-paint, is over…Phew! Now onto the fun bits!
We ended up going for Johnstons Antique White to cover up all the dodgy previous colours; lime green, ice blue, acid yellow…yuck! And the plan is to slowly repaint the rooms in varying shades of white-probably by Farrow & Ball (Old White is my new obsession!).
We’ve also re-done the bench in the kitchen. Initally it was a coarse rough cut out shape, not very suited to a country cottage. So, we used a jigsaw and recut the shape, also making it a lot narrower on the seat while we where at it! The finished bench is now smoother and much more softer on the eye. We have more space due to the narrower seat and the new colour is very pretty-Farrow & Ball Bone.
Next stop is to sew some new bench cushions for it and it also needs another paint coat.

I’ve also been giving Chalk Paint a go. I had a sample pot of Frenchic’s Wedgewood Green so used that on a pine coat hook and also the bench in the main boot room. It was really easy to use and had great coverage so a little went a looong way!

I used the Frenchic Chalk Paint sample pot in the boot room on the wooden bench and shelf/coat hook. It’s pretty impressive how far that sample pot stretched really!

The following has been inspiring me so far; Cabbages & Roses, my parents home, various relatives houses, Charlie’s furniture/finds, shades of whites from the Farrow & Ball swatch book, natural textures, Willow Crossley,The Cotswolds…
I’m excited that Im now at the fun bit-filling up the house, more DIY products, furniture sourcing…And also getting creative with colour. I’d love to use wallpaper but sadly I think this house is just too naturally damp to cope 🙁 Instead Im going to paint some chinoiserie patterns somewhere-possibly in the bathroom or inside a cupboard? I have yet to decide!
