It’s almost time for my favourite show of the year Burghley Horse Trials! In my opinion it’s the show to go to if you have to pick just one.The location is beautiful, the stalls are the best of the bunch and the food is definitely a step up from the usual offerings. It does help too that the weather tends to be pretty good. This year the trials are running from the 31st August to the 4th September.

I thought I’d put together my dream outfit for Burghley Horse Trials as a bit of inspiration for those who are lucky enough to be going in a few days time. While for Badminton I’d certainly be in my Dubarrys as it can be mucky, and for the Game Fair I favour a brighter tweed, but for Burghley I prefer a much more classic and chic look.

What to wear at Burghley-The Jacket

This stunning, timeless jacket is by Katherine Hooker, the ultimate place to go for a really gorgeous jacket or coat. This Hendre Style has reversible cuffs and back tab which I love and has a very flattering longer length. Usually £650 but now £485 online.

What to wear at Burghley-The Basics

A simple smart set of basics to layer your lovely jacket and accessories on-top of is essential to getting an outfit that looks great and is comfortable too. I love a crisp pair of white jeans in a fit that suits you (invest in a thick pair so they aren’t see through!) and a beautiful shirt. This Liberty print silk shirt by Cordings £99 is just perfect. Silk regulates temperature so ideal for a turbulent climate like ours plus it looks luxe.

What to wear at Burghley-The Accessories

Now you have your essentials sorted it’s time to upgrade the outfit with some stunning accessories. I do feel that a hat is an essential for any show/fair/trials as it might rain or be very windy. I think Really Wild has a wonderful selection of countryside appropriate options. My favourite one is this Brown Feather Trilby £275. A scarf is another essential to keep you snug and add some colour and pattern, again I fell for this chic Really Wild pheasant silk scarf £135. Lastly, although not an essential, a good belt is something I really feel adds a bit of luxe to an outfit. I have been loving Gucci’s belts recently, this classic interlocking G style comes in black and brown also.

What to wear at Burghley-The Boots

It’s crazy how boots have become the “it” item on the show circuit! At the moment it’s all about Fairfax & Favour which I love, but sometimes it’s nice to have something a little different. My favourite pair of boots are these Penelope Chivers long Spanish style boots £475, loved by Kate Middleton and very stylish. Yes they’re still trendy but they are made from hardy leather which means they’ll cope better with some rain than suede and also they have a few subtle different details that keeps you looking fashion forward.
